When one gets older their bodies become frailer, and older people don’t feel like exercising. However, getting old should not stop one from getting out and get their body moving for a better health. Many think that once they cross the age of 60 years old they can’t get into better shape. But it’s completely wrong.

Also, almost all elderly people fear that they cannot be active as they were in their young age. Yes it’s partly true. But with proper exercises and healthy routine even elderly people can get a better body shape and be active.

Here are some good exercises for older people:

Walking:
Walking benefits people at all ages of their lives. Start walking for 15 minutes in a day and slowly make it 30 minutes a day. If you can, increase it up to one hour a day. Walking will have a low impact on your body, but an easy to do and healthy exercise.

Push-ups:
Push-ups can put pressure on one’s elbows, wrists and lower back even at their young age. So, older people are not suggested to do this exercise hardly. So, simply lie down on your stomach and push your chest up through your arms. After some time, come back to the ground. After some relaxation, start pushups again. This simple exercise strengthens the muscles in your arms

Stomach crunches: Stomach crunches do not put any pressure on your back as in the case of a full sit-up. This exercise targets your stomach muscles and makes them strong. It’s better you do stomach crunches at the end of your workout. Do this with slow and controlled movements. Don’t rock yourself back and forward. Do fewer crunches with good form rather than doing more with bad form.

Side bends: Side bends help the older people get rid of love handles. For this exercise stand up straight keeping your feet together and your arms to the sides. Slowly slide your right hand down your leg till your torso starts to bend in that direction. Then slowly pull your hand back up. Do the same on the other side. Keep doing this exercise until you get tired.
