Studies Indicate That Singers Have A Stronger Heart

Singers all over the world have an added advantage of a strong heart. Studies show that singing that involves deep breathing is a great way of exercising the breathing muscles.

Studies have also indicated that such singing can have cardiovascular benefits.

There was a study conducted in 1986 on a group of 20 opera singers belonging to the age group of 28-65 years and 20 non-singers below 40 years.

It was found that the opera singers had stronger chest-wall muscles and that their hearts pumped better in comparison to the non-singers. The singers also maintained a large lung capacity, something that usually declines with age.

Another study further indicated that that singers’ prolonged use of their lungs set off an increase in the hormone leptin. The brain on the other hand becomes resistant to this increase.

The hormone Leptin is made in fat cells and helps the body keep a track of fat storage. Resistant to leptin leads to weight gain. Thus indicating that singers are more disposed to weight gain.

Well those of you, who sing, are lucky enough to develop a strong heart. At the same time get into a regular form of exercise to trim down the excess weight gain.
