Ballroom dancing is not advisable for people suffering from any physical disability or a fatal medical condition like a heart disease, hypertension, low blood pressure, etc. Infact, ballroom dancing calls for high endurance and energy levels which can be achieved by the fit and healthy. For instance, doctors suggest that if you’re likely to suffer from chest, pains, breathlessness and the like then ballroom dancing is certainly not recommended.

Evidences suggest that ballroom dancing deaths have occurred when people have taken to sudden strenuous physical activities like weight lifting, stair climbing, etc. In addition, most of these people are older, maybe above 50 years and are unaware of any heart disease, chest pains, etc. Experts opine that under such neglected medical conditions, heart attacks are but obvious. Therefore, it is necessary to understand and listen to the needs of the body before getting into something like ballroom dancing.
In younger people, any strenuous activity can lead to sudden cardiac arrests or death. Sudden deaths in teenagers who perceive to be otherwise healthy can be a result of electrolyte imbalance, an undetected heart disease, caffeine, dehydration, low sodium levels in the body and diet pills or illegal drugs.
How Effective is Ballroom Dancing for Losing Weight?
The levels of calories lost during any physical activity, experts opine, depend on the time, environmental temperature, intensity of the exercise and how much one weighs. However, medical research has revealed that about 200 calories are lost with quick dancing for about 30 minutes. Experts further explain that for complete cardiovascular fitness, one must stick to an exercise regime thrice a week, whether it is walking, aerobics and/or ballroom dancing.
Jogging in the early 60s and 80s was reported to be the best form of exercise for maintaining cardiovascular fitness. Ballroom dancing has quiet changed the equations with it becoming the best exercise for cardiovascular health. Though jogging is not done away with, the trick is to adapt oneself to slow to fast pace walking or slow to fast beats for ballroom dancing.
Experts point out emphatically that there is no age to take up ballroom dancing. There is no stopping, as long as one feels and knows best about his or her body and fitness levels. Ballroom dancing can not only enhance cardiovascular fitness but also encourages social and mental well being.

this article is way off base. Ballroom dancing can be adapted to ant fitness level, most especially for recovering heart patients, hypertensive patients, metabolic syndrome, elevated lipids etc.!!!!!
It is also excellant rehab for stroke patients. DO YOUR RESEARCH
