Some say it depends on the toothpaste while some say it is a myth, how do you react to this – toothpaste for pimples? Yes, no matter how old we grow, we never tire in looking for ways to find clearer skin; toothpaste being one such solution. Many experts also believe that toothpaste can aggravate the condition of the pimples. So what does one do?
Why Toothpaste is Ineffective for Pimples?
Most search results on the net tell you that toothpastes can reduce both pimples and dark spots. Experts opine that such claims do not hold much truth because it is believed that toothpaste can certainly have a drying effect on the skin but cannot be used as a way to make pimples disappear.
In addition, it is also reported that the menthol contained in toothpastes can irritate the skin legions and cause them to swell in no time. Researchers say that the tingling effect may give users the feeling of getting rid of the pimples but toothpastes actually don’t serve any purpose except to clean our teeth.
Thirdly, toothpaste is also said to contain an ingredient called fluoride that can again irritate the skin and also cause severe allergies in some people. Earlier studies have shown a distinct connection between fluoride allergies and contact dermatitis around the lips. In extremely sensitive cases, fluoride can also cause skin eruptions.
The most probable argument that goes for the use of toothpaste for pimples is that – both toothpastes and acne-creams can irritate the skin then why not toothpaste for pimples?
Researchers claim that yes, they do, but acne-creams and ointments are manufactured to fight bacteria and to promote cell growth with the help of chemicals such as benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. So, dry skin isn’t a solution but a side effect of acne-creams.
If you’re wondering what you should reconcile with at the end of the day, then the answer is acne-creams and ointments for extreme cases of acne and pimples. As daily preventive measures to avoid pimples – stick to a balanced and nutritious diet, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly. Why try things that haven’t been able to prove their worth as yet? You could land up getting more than you could imagine – so don’t mess with your pimples!
