UK Kids Never Ate and Don’t Eat Fruits: Get Fruitful Kids!

Did you know that fruits can keep a number of health ailments at bay? Yes, regular consumption of fruits and vegetables have been related to the decline in cardiovascular risks, strokes, cancers, cataracts, Alzheimer and even age-related problems such as sagging skin, wrinkles, etc. A study conducted by the School Food Trust reveals that one in seven kids in British kids don’t eat fruits at all. To add to it all, the government further claims that nearly 1.7 million in the United Kingdom have never eaten fruits in their life.

Experts claim that though the term “healthy eating” is common with kids, many parents do not understand the meaning of balanced and nutritious diets – about which foods should be taken in what quantities, etc.

Ivan Lewis, health minister (United Kingdom) said that most of the families relied on some corner for their entire monthly or yearly groceries. There is a need he says to stack up these shops located at small corners with loads of vegetables and fruits so that people could consume their almost daily.

The report also shows that UK’s favorite fruits – banana and apple haven’t been eaten by youngsters who account for nearly 14% of the kids in UK. The study further asserts that the chances of kids eating fruits at home were really sad because they were getting to eat fruits for free at school instead.

Yet another disturbing notion held by many youngsters in UK was that – eating 5 fruits a day didn’t mean “healthy” to them. Instead they felt that starving meant healthy.

As studies have suggested that nearly 1 in every 3 British kids are suffering from obesity and overweight issues, the data can be well justified with the eating trends of UK. Infact, supportive statistics show that by 2050 about 2 in every 3 kids and about 90% of the adult population will be suffering from overweight problems, heart ailments, diabetes, etc. Additional reports also suggest that British children aged between 8-16 years love to spend nearly 550 pounds (1024.155 US dollars) yearly on a lot of junk foods – crisps, sweets, etc.
