While doing your cardio exercises, beware of committing these mistakes. These are the most common mistakes people make while doing their cardio. Cardiovascular exercise is an aerobic activity which increases the function of heart and lungs.
Walking jogging, running, walking are common forms of cardiovascular exercises. Cardiovascular exercise burns calories and is very beneficial to lose weight. Treadmill, cross trainer, and stationary cycles are examples of indoor equipments which are used to get a cardio workout.
Most Common Mistakes People Make While Doing Cardio:
Here are the most common mistakes people make while doing their cardio workouts:
- Leaning on the equipment: Most people lean on the cardio equipment, especially on treadmill or elliptical trainer. Leaning on the equipment reduces the effect of your workout. If you want to get a proper workout, make sure you stand erect while using the cardio equipment.
- Gripping the equipment tightly: People hold onto the cardio equipment for the fear of losing their balance while exercising. However, gripping the equipment can become a habit and you may not get a proper workout. When you grip the equipment, you arms do not get enough movement. Hence, if you feel insecure, just rest your fingers on the equipment and do not grip the equipment tightly.
- Trying to do too much initially: If you are starting to do your cardio exercises, initially, do your workout slowly. You can build up on the intensity and time of your workout gradually. Heavy workout initially may lead to injuries and you may feel worn out and tired.
- Reading, talking, or watching television: While getting their cardio workout, most people talk, read books, or watch television. All of these may be beneficial to prevent boredom, but these things may keep you from getting proper workout. Hence, even if you have distractions, make sure you do your cardio workout properly.
- Doing only cardio: Along with a cardiovascular program, strength training is also necessary. Strength training is important to build bones, burn calories, and it also gives a good shape to your body. Hence, make sure you include strength training along with your cardio workout.
Cardiovascular exercises have numerous benefits and most people enjoy it. However, make sure you are doing your cardiovascular exercises properly and avoid these common mistakes.

Hi!! Thank you for such an informative post! You are so right… I commit almost all the mistakes that you have mentioned. I lean on my treadmill while exercising and also watch TV at the same time and yes, grip it too hard too… But then I almost fell off the treadmill once so I am a little cautious now. And yes, I am not doing any strength training too…so that me the blunder queen I believe. So I must thank you for the valuable information that you have given. It will go a long way in improving my exercise regimen.
