If you are a teen, then there is good news for you! According to a new study, intense exercise during teens makes the immune system strong. This study was done by Dan Cooper, MD, professor of pediatrics, at University of California.
In this study, about 11 high school boys’ blood was analyzed before and after the intense exercise. It was found that their immunity increased substantially after the exercise.
The Impact of Exercise:
About 11 high school boys aged 14 to 18, were subjected to intense activity for about an hour-and-a half. The intense exercise included the following:
- The boys were made to jog, stretch for about 20 minutes
- The boys practiced wrestling moves, such as takedowns and pins for 20 minutes
- The boys practiced simulated wrestling for about 15 minutes
- They were involved in 15 minutes of iron man wrestling, where one boy should wrestle with another new wrestler for 30 seconds each
- They were involved in 10 minutes of wrestling
The researchers analyzed the boys’ blood after half-an-hour of intense exercise. The immune system of the boys showed an increase in the following cells:
- Natural killer cells
- Killer T lymphocytes
- Antibody producing B-cells
The above cells contribute to the defense mechanism of the body. Increase in their number would mean a stronger immune system. The blood also showed other factors which indicate healthy immunity of one’s body.
Teen Exercise and Immune System:
Exercising in teens can have a substantial effect in boosting the immune system. Hence, fitness and exercise can ensure you good health. It can also help you to fight various diseases.
