Warming up and cooling down are two essential things you have to include during your workout. When you warm up and cool down, you decrease the risk of injuries. This is also the proper way to do your cardio exercises.
Warming up:
Warming up is about 5 to 10 minutes of mild activity before you get into the actual cardio workout. Warming up prepares you mentally and physically for a workout. Warming up usually involves the muscles which you would be using for the workout. For example, before running, you can walk or jog for a few minutes.
Why should you Warm up before Exercising?
The following are the reasons you should warm up before exercising:
- It increases your muscle temperature, joints and tissues. Warmer muscles are less prone to injuries and more flexible
- It gradually increases your heart rate and prepares you for workout. If you get into your workout directly, your heart rate can shoot up suddenly.
- It redirects the blood flow to the muscles from other parts of the body. This will prepare your muscles for workout
Warming up should be done before every cardio workout to prevent injuries.
Cooling down:
Cooling down is slowing down for 5 to 10 minutes after your intense cardio workout. For example after cycling intensely for 30 minutes, slow cycling should be done for 5 to 10 minutes to cool down.
Why should you Cool down after exercising?
The following are the reasons you should cool down after exercising:
- It decreases your body and muscle temperature to a normal level. In this way, you would be prepared for a shower
- It redistributes your blood flow to all the parts of the body
- It prevents the blood from pooling in a particular part of the body such as legs. Pooling of blood can lead to dizziness and nausea
Cooling down is especially important if you are obese or having a heart disease. Hence, it should not be skipped.
Warming up and cooling down are most essential for cardio workout. They prevent injuries and help you to enjoy your workout. Hence, warm up and cool down to have an effective workout
