Ego centrism can be defined as a tendency wherein a child/individual tends to see the world only from his/her terms.

Adolescents believe that the world revolves only around them and that every move they make matters a lot. The way they look, the way they walk, their height and their weight are all scrutinized by the world around.

Therefore they have this immense pressure to look good. Two things that worry them the most are their height and weight. Many a doctors are frequently asked about “ Average height weight for teenager”.

And in order to answer this question, the aid of BMI i.e. Body Mass Index was frequently used earlier. A Body Mass Index is a tool that helps denote if one is overweight or not. However, its use has created a lot of controversy, as some experts conclude that a BMI does not take into account the actual bone weight, history and individual difference of adolescence. Whereas some find it to be the right indication that denotes if one is over or under weight.

Some experts on the other hand have come up with what an adolescent should ideally weigh for their given height for their age.

Boys
