How Does a Pedometer Work?
A pedometer is to be clipped to your belt,  waistband, or other places such as above the knee. When you walk, the sensor inside the pedometer detects the motion of the hips and records the steps. At the end of the day, you can see how many steps you have walked

Some pedometers have the feature of calculating the distance you walked. For this, you would have to enter the length of your step. The device multiplies your  step distance with the total number of steps walked to get the total distance.
