What is CrossFit Workout?

CrossFit workout is a program which focuses on overall fitness of the body. This program strengthens and conditions the body and makes you more adaptable for day-to-day activities. CrossFit workout includes rigorous workouts such as weight lifting, running, jumping, and calisthenics etc.

Although CrossFit’s heavy workout regime may not be pleasing for everyone, professional athletes, martial artists, would be interested in this. People who are keen to increase their fitness levels would also find this program useful.

CrossFit workout aims at increasing fitness in areas such as cardiovascular, stamina, power, speed, balance, coordination, accuracy, flexibility, coordination and strength. Over time this program can enable participants to lose extra pounds, increase muscular strength, and ward away obesity, heart disease and other health problems.

In a CrossFit workout, participants would be increasing the speed and the weight gradually. Activities such as running, rowing, climbing, jumping, carrying objects are done continuously. Participants are urged to do the activities faster  without rest. Some of the equipments used by CrossFit are gymnastic rings, kettle bells, weight lifting components, ropes etc. The workout begins with a warm up, a segment dedicated to skill development,  and 20 minutes of high intensity workout.

CrossFit was started by Greg Glassman, a former gymnast, in the 1980s. This program gained popularity as a growing fitness movement and it has about 1000 gyms dedicated to this workout.
