Difference between Aerobic and anaerobic exercises is in one aspect – the usage of oxygen to generate energy. A good workout combines both aerobic and anaerobic activity for best results.

Aerobic Exercise:
Aerobic exercise is an activity which uses oxygen to replenish energy for the muscles. Examples of aerobic activities are jogging, running, cycling etc. –which are performed at low to moderate intensity.  An aerobic exercise is done for longer than 90 seconds and it is marked by increased activity of the heart and lungs.

The advantages of aerobic exercise include:

Anaerobic Exercise:
Anaerobic exercises are short bursts of activity which do not use oxygen to generate energy. These exercises are of medium to high intensity and the body’s demand for energy is high. So, instead of oxygen, natural body chemicals are utilized to replenish the energy.

Anaerobic activity is performed for less than 2 minutes at a time and is usually referred to as strength training, resistance training etc. In activity, equipment such as dumbbells, resistance machines and weight machines are used.

The best workout is the one which combines both aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Combining both of them will enable you to lose body fat and maintain your muscle tone.
