Extremely popular in the 1950s, it was favored only as a kids’ toy until the recent past. Now it is used by several people as a fun activity to burn calories and stay fit.

Hula hoop exercise is a cardiovascular activity, which requires rapid movements of the hips and the body.  Swinging the hula loop two minutes at a time, for 20 minutes or every day can burn a lot of calories. One can easily increase the duration of hula hooping gradually.

Hula hooping can be used as an independent activity or can be a component of your regular fitness regime.  Adding some fast paced music to the hula hoop exercise can add loads of fun to your workout.

How to Perform Hula Hoop Exercise:
Place the hula hoop against your back, a little over your waist. Put one foot forward. Now, move the hula hoop around your waist by shifting your weight back and forth, from one foot to another. This will keep the hula hoop moving around your waist. With practice, you can continuously move the hoop for longer periods.

While buying a hula hoop, make sure it suits your body size – the larger the body, the bigger the hoop should be. Weighted hula hoops are also available which can enable you to burn more calories.

Hula hoop exercise is a good way to work out within the comfort of your home. You can also find out if your healthcare center or gym offers group hula hoop exercising, which can help you to learn the basics.

If you feel traditional workouts boring or intimidating, choose hoola hooping for a fun-filled workout.
