Dumbbell squat focuses on your quads, abs and hamstrings. This exercises strengthens your leg muscles and firms up your abs. So, its a good idea to include dumbbell squats in your exercise routine. A dumbbell squat would need about 8-pound or 10-pound dumbbells.
How to Do Dumbbell Squat?
Here are the steps to be followed to do a dumbbell squat:
- Keep your feet at a shoulder-width apart from each other
- Hold a pair dumbbells to your sides
- Slowly lower yourself by bending your knees. When you lower your body, the butt would be moving rearward and the weight should be maintained on your heel
- Squat down until your thighs are parallel to the floor. The knees should also be in line with your feet
- Now straighten your knees and hips until you are at the starting position
Initially you can do dumbbell squat in sets of 3, each set consisting of 10 squats. Start with a suitable weight of 8-pounds or more and increase as you get used to this exercise.
While doing a dumbbell squat, you should keep your head forward, back straight, chest high and your head up. Avoid sudden movements as they can cause muscle strain and injury. Also avoid locking your knees once you come to the standing position.
Dumbbell squat should be done slowly. To achieve this, you can count up to 3 while squatting and count 3 while coming in a standing position. Ensure you keep your thighs perpendicular to the floor while doing the squatting.
