Plyometric Workout

Plyometric workout is aimed at increasing speed, power and agility. Plyometric exercises are sport-specific, which can help an athlete to achieve quick movements. This workout helps the muscles to contract forcefully, and one would be able to run faster, jump higher and have other quick movements which help in sports.

How Does Plyometric Workout Benefit You?
A muscle functions with a lengthening and contraction motion. If the muscle is stretched to the maximum extent, its abilty to contract forcibly increases. When a person undergoes plyometric training, his/her stretching and contraction would occur quickly.

Using this principle, plyometric workout stretches the working muscles to the maximum extent. When the muscles become tolerant to the stretches, the stretching and contraction of muscles while would be quicker.

As plyometric workout is a high intensity exercise, one should warm up for about 10 minutes. The exercises should be done slowly and gradually the intensity can be built up. Stretching exercises done before a plyometric workout also reduce the chances of injury.

Here are some of the examples of plyometric exercises:

Plyometrics are beneficial for those who participate in sports which require running, jumping and landing,  The exercises also include lot of force during the moves. This can increase the risk of injury. Hence, one initially, the plyometrics should be done under the guidance of a trainer to decrease injury risk and to know the moves properly.

Other safety precautions such as wearing cushioned shoes, taking plenty of rest between exercises, stopping when there is signs of pain etc. should be followed.
