Exercise dizziness is caused due to many reasons, the primary being not warming up before exercise and cooling down after exercise. Dizziness can also indicate an underlying health problem. In such cases, consulting your doctor would help you to determine any health reasons.
Reasons For Exercise Dizziness:
Exercise dizziness can be caused due to the following reasons:
- Dehydration: Dehydration during exercises can cause dizziness along with nausea. So, make sure you drink water before and during exercise to prevent dehydration. This will replace the lost fluids and prevent dizziness
- Trying too hard: Exercising beyond your fitness level can result in breathlessness and dizziness during exercise – which can be dangerous. Exercise should be increased gradually and sudden increase in workout can cause dizziness. If you are planning to exercise, it is better to consult a doctor to know your fitness level and the exercises which are safe for you
- Lack of Warming up/cooling down: Warming up increases your exercise intensity gradually while cooling down allows your body to slow down. Suddenly switching to high intensity exercise can lead to dizziness. In the same way, slowing down suddenly can lower your blood pressure and cause dizziness
- Iron deficiency anemia: If you have iron deficiency anemia, your body cannot meet the extra demand for oxygen during exercise. This can lead to dizziness
- Low carbohydrate stores: Being low on nutrients can deprive you of energy needed for exercising. This can strain your system and cause dizziness. Hence, make sure you are not energy-deprived or eat 1 hour before exercising
Not breathing fully and keeping your gaze shifting while exercising are the other factors can also lead to dizziness. As dizziness can also be caused due to a health problem, consulting a doctor and undergoing tests can help to point out the reason behind the dizziness.
