Healthy foods that come in affordable price are hard to find. The food that is rich in nutrition is often packed with a high price tag. Not all individuals can afford for a healthy food daily. To eat more of nutrition you need to pay more of dollars.
The Affordable Nutrition Index is a system that rates the food by evaluating on its price tag and its benefits on health. Over three hundred foods were evaluated and were given a score based on nutrition-value-per-dollar. Basically the ANI helps the consumers to know about the various nutrition products that come in an affordable price list.
The food scores were based on the standards of nine necessary nutrients — fiber, magnesium, iron, calcium, protein, potassium, vitamins A, vitamin C, and vitamin E — and to stay away from —added sugars, sodium and saturated fat.
The Health foods that ranked high on the list of ANI are as follows:
The list of the high ranked nutritious food products have not yet hit the market but the sample of it were displayed at the American Dietetic Association’s Food and Nutrition Conference.
- Carrots, broccoli, and sweet potatoes, are at the top of the Affordable Nutrition Index scale. Other veg products that rank high are string beans, peas, lettuce and squash.
- Vegetable soups that are low in sodium are also seen as being good values.
- Bananas and Oranges are the top list in fruits, while blackberries, raspberries, grapes, strawberries, apples and nectarines also rank high.
